Zell Am See in Summer
In summer, Zell Am See is just as busy as in winter, with visitors arriving from around the world to enjoy the lakeside setting, where watersports such as sailing and windsurfing, swimming and pleasure boat trips are available.
Walking on the Schmittenhoehe is made easy as the lifts are open in summer too, meaning you can ascend by one lift and make an easy walk to a mountain restaurant, then descend by another lift. For the more energetic, you can of course walk from the valley without using the lifts! Mountain biking is also available in Zell Am See and in nearby Saalbach, as well as more leisurely cycle tours around the lake.
Trips out to the spectacular Krimml waterfalls are possible, as well as over the Grossglocknerstrasse, the highest mountain road in Austria, which leads to the spectacular Franz Josef Hoehe on the Pasterze glacier. The region boasts some stunning scenery with dramatic alpine mountains, tranquil forests and lakes.
